In SD, high capacity, memory, storage on May 4, 2009 by Social Gamer

The future of technology is always surprising me with things not previously thought possible.
With storage constraints becoming more and more prevalent in our digital devices such as gaming consoles, cameras, and music/video players, we can thank the people responsible for advancing out storage tech.

2 TB

Information found on the official SD website we can be expecting a 2 TB SDXC memory card very soon. Yes you heard me right…! 2 TB..! That is unbelievable, I was blown away when I read this:

SDXC

Massive Storage, Incredible Speed

The next-generation SDXC (eXtended Capacity) memory card specification, pending release in Q1 2009, dramatically improves consumers’ digital lifestyles by increasing storage capacity from more than 32 GB up to 2 TB and increasing bus interface speed up to 104 MB per second in 2009 with a road map to 300 MB per second. SDXC will provide more portable storage and speed, which are often required to support new features in consumer electronic devices and mobile phones.

A 2 TB SDXC memory card could store an estimated 100 HD movies or 480 hours of HD recording or 136,000 fine-grade photos. Faster bus speeds will enable professional-level recording in compact consumer camcorders and increase the number of frames shot in a second with SDXC cameras.

PlayStation Home hacked

In PSN, Playstation 3, Virtual worlds, home, networking, playstation, social, storage on October 24, 2008 by Social Gamer Tagged: , , , , ,

Hackers, like life, will find a way. Sony knows that all too well thanks to the PSP, but so far the PlayStation 3 has stood strong in the face of legions of nerds trying to find a way to exploit it. A potentially major breakthrough may have been made, though, as well-known PS3 hacker StreetskaterFU (we’ve no idea what he’s going for with that name — really) has managed to decrypt the beta client for Sony’s PlayStation Home service. Curious devs can now poke around in the files looking for a way to exploit the newish in-game XMB functionality, potentially allowing homebrew apps and game backups without hard drive swapping. There’s no guarantee it will lead anywhere in the end, but you don’t care either way, right? Our upstanding readership would never participate in such heinously illegal activities.

Playstation firmware update this morning

In PSN, Playstation 3, hdd, internet, memory, multiplayer, networking, playstation, social, storage, videogames on October 14, 2008 by Social Gamer Tagged: , ,

This morning I turned on my PS3 and was promted to update my system’s firmware. I downloaded it and noticed a few tweaks to the Playstation Store and a few update to the web browser. I am posting from my PS3 right now. I wanted to see if the new Flash9 update would let me post from my PS3 and it words great. Now if I am playing a game and I get any tips I can just pop up the Web Browser on the PS3 and post it. Great feature. Sony is really working hard to catch up tothe browsers on a PC or Mac. Seem like the update didn’t include the HOME virtual world interface. I was hoping to start designing my apartment and meeting people on the PSNetwork. I will keep you posted as information become available. Well take care and here’s hoping we get it

MS to offer NXE ’storage solutions’ to those who need it

In 360, XBOX, avatar, deals, hard drive, hdd, internet, memory, networking, social, storage, videogames, voice chat, xbox 360, xbox live on October 11, 2008 by Social Gamer

“The new Xbox experience will require 128MB of free space. A hard drive is recommended for the optimal experience, to take advantage of some new features, and to be able to enjoy the great movies, TV shows and games available on Xbox LIVE. While we expect the majority of consumers to download the New Xbox Experience without a problem, a small percentage of Xbox 360 owners do not have enough memory to accommodate the update. To help ensure all Xbox LIVE members are able to download the New Xbox Experience and enjoy its new features, Microsoft will be offering storage solutions to the Xbox LIVE community. We are not sharing details of this offering yet. Be sure to check xbox.com for more details in the coming weeks.”
