Today I started seeing website posts sating that the Playstation HOME will be launching on the same day that the XBOX Live Experience for the 360. November 19th 2008 will be a huge day for both platforms as both offer similar interaction with friends. But once the system update get into full swing we will all really see the true differences from the good to the bad. I personally can’t wait for both. I just hope the worlds internets can handle the multi-millions of users for both platforms downloading at the same time. Who knows…LoL

Social Networking Updates for 360 & PS3
In 360, Playstion Home, XBOX, avatar, playstation, social, videogames, xbox 360, xbox live on October 12, 2008 by Social Gamer
For my first real look into social video gaming. I want to take a look at what the PS3 and the XBOX360 will soon be offering to gamers across the world.
***Note*** These comparisons are based on information found
on the web not by me actually using either interface.
First I’ll talk a little bit on Playstation HOME.
Home to begin with is very good looking. The visuals are very polished and you can see that SONY has been working hard to make sure HOME will be pleasing to look at. Now with the introduction to the Trophy system you will have an area with in HOME to show off your trophy collection to your friends in a virtual world. You will also be able to create a fully customizable avatar that will represent you to everyone walking around the HOME world. You will be able to dress and buy clothing and furniture for your apartment as well. There are many rumors out there on whether or not you’ll be able to share your personal videos stored on your PS3 HDD, but you will be able to share your music with in your apartment. Now when I say share I don’t mean file share your music. I am talking about having a radio or stereo inside your apartment and if you have music on the HDD you will be able to stream it to the virtual sound system of choice. Your friends that you allow to visit will be able to hear the music in the apartment. I think that’s a cool Idea. Maybe the video portion will be released after launch I’m guessing, only when the HOME service is actually launched we’ll find out more. Now as far as socialising goes you will be able to chat via preset text phrases, text input via keyboard and/or a bluetooth headset for realtime voice chat. You can of course show off your pictures as well and play a bunch of games within HOME. Some of the game are Bowling, Pool and mini Arcade games. To me this is all cool for socialising with friends and making new friends as well. I know I am missing some feature that might be included in HOME, but with so many different posts on the internet I will reserve my thoughts for when I have the service in my hand.
Now onto the New XBOX Live Experience.
The new Xbox Live Experience will launch on November 19th, 2008 and will be free for all Xbox360 owners with at least 256Mb free space of HDD or Memory Card space. Now to think of Live! as just a service to play games online is an understatement. You will be able to chat with up to 8 buddies at the same time across all aspects of the XBOX console. For example you and 7 other friends can get into a party. You and a friend are playing Gears2 Co-Op two other friends are watching movies on DVD and and the other 3 friends are playing a team death match game in Call of Duty: World at War, all of you will still be able to chat via live voice chat with one another with no interruption’s to the party’s connection. Now that feature alone is hot and no one can do that (not even HOME). You can also watch the same movie thru the new feature Netflix that will stream the same movie as long as everyone in the party has a active account with Netflix. Amazing…….! I can’t wait for that feature. Now onto the Avatar system just like HOME you will be able to create a unique character that will represent who you are and how your buddies will see you in the Live Experience area. Just like in HOME you will be able to buy and have some free clothing and accessories like rings, earrings and hats not much is know on the full details of customisations. Like stated above I know I am missing allot more features on both services on this initial preview but I will update once I get the services in my hands after November 19th.
I guess the point is that on either system you will be able to have a great social experience and have fun with all of the features both HOME and the New XBOX Live Experience will offer.
The bottom line will then be which system will you have more friends on and what controller do you want to play with. I hope you enjoyed this small peak into the social gaming world that will be available to everyone come late fall. The Playstation HOME is stated to be released sometime before the end of the year but no official release date has been announced yet. The NXE as a realease date of November 19th, 2008.
